Yarn Design + Knit Design
Using a piece of my own original artwork (Left, Multitude, 2014, Acrylic) as a starting point, this project was completed as part of my Yarn Design class at NC State University.
White cotton sliver was painted with bright hues of orange, pink, purple, blue, and green, then spun into yarn. Using an FAK knitting machine and a 7 gauge v-bed hand operated knitting machine, my hand created yarn was knit into a collection of samples, featuring additional found yarns donated to the Wilson College of Textiles. Not all the yarn spun onto the cone was used in these samples, and other colors of yarn are still hidden under the current layer of purple. I am still looking for the perfect opportunity to create something with it, and to let it reveal itself. Much of the final yarn has never been seen, even by me! There are layers of vibrant colors underneath. |
