This handwoven collection, titled Plumage, is a textural study based on the
appearance of a Bald Eagle as it passes through stages of growth.

1 (Left) The barely fledged bald eagle has primarily dark feathers, with a white speckled undercoat. The eyes and beak are dark as well.

2 (Right) In the first year of life, bald eagles are often mistaken for golden eagles due to their very similar coloring.

3 (Left) During the second and third year of life, the tail, beak, and head become lighter.

4 (Right) The fully grown bald eagle has a d
istinctive yellow beak and talons, a white head, and a solid dark body.

In addition, this final textile was woven to represent the habitat of a Bald Eagle, around lakes and in trees.
I grew up hiking, kayaking, and swimming at Jordan Lake in Chatham County, North Carolina, which serves as
a large and protected home for Bald Eagles. Seeing a Bald Eagle soar over the lake is incredibly beautiful.

All samples were woven using an AVL Compu-Dobby loom and WeavePoint Design Software.
