Inspired by the textile designs of Alexander Girard, this jacquard
woven collection was created with wool and cotton yarns.
woven collection was created with wool and cotton yarns.
Alexander Girard was an architect, interior designer, and textile designer known for his work in the late 1950's through the 1970's.
He was highly respected and incredibly prolific.
Joyful and geometric, his textile designs inspire me to use simplicity to my advantage, and to let symmetry tell the story on its own.

PERSONAL INTERPRETATION
Directly inspired by the motifs in Girard's textiles; I emulated his work in these designs.
|
BEFORE
WASHING When first woven, the textile maintains the aspect ratio of the digital design.
|
AFTER
WASHING Once washed, the wool yarns shrink for a felted effect.
The cotton yarns do not shrink, creating texture and altering fabric dimensions. |
All patterns were designed using Lectra Kaledo Print and converted for weaving using EAT DesignScope.
